Rear extension drainage - Chigwell
- Location
- Chigwell, London
- Services
- Drainage

This Chigwell rear extension needed the drainage picked up and re-laid before the new footprint was built over it. We opened the ground at the back of the house, traced the existing runs, and laid new pipework to take them on.
A mini digger opened the trench beside the house. Under the old patio we found a brick inspection chamber, old clay pipes and a live water pipe, all sitting in wet clay. Inside, a channel was cut through the concrete floor so a new drain could run out to the excavation.
New orange pipe was bedded on gravel and joined to the existing drains with flexible couplings. The runs were brought together at a new brick manhole, with branches left for the soil and waste, including the connection beside the boiler and the WC. The trench was then backfilled with gravel, and the new pipework inside was boxed in above the units.
